Astoria is lovely

Yesterday I had seen in JoeyInAstoria that Bistro 33 was offering free beer and burgers in celebration of their 1st birthday. My friends and I were on to it like a fly to spilled honey. (I dunno) After work we walked over there and it was really pleasant. The beer was quality (Sam Adams Summer Ale) and the burgers were delicious. Thick and juicy with an assortment of pickles, lettuce, tomato, spicy mayo, peppers and onions with spicy sausage... They really outdid themselves for free. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and it felt like a real neighborhood community. The owner was out and about and loving life. I am really glad we went!

Broadway

My roommate from college (scary to say), Carla, came in to visit, sort of. On Saturday we went into the city. We went to lunch at the place with the best mozzerella cheese, La Mela. Then we got mini canoles at Ferrara. I generally dont even like them, but the filling was pretty yummy. We walked around Chinatown, then met up with her mom, aunt, cousin and friend. They were in town because they have a clothing company and were doing a trunk show. Walked around Soho a while, got approached by a crazy lady filled with sex jokes, then went back to Starbucks to rest a bit. I couldn't help but really enjoy Soho. Its just so interesting to me and on this particular day, I was really liking the vibe. Carla and Russ's friend Jay came by after work and we met his friend for dinner. She was very interesting to talk to. Went to Harvard, then went to work as a paralegal. Somewhere there tol dher about a totally different path and convinced her to work in Hawaii, where she met Jay. Then moved to the Carribean to work for Club Med for 2 years. After Katrina she went to work for Red Cross and now works for a company that sells tourism tickets for things like Sex and the City tours, etc. Anyways, it was this pleasant little place called Faccocia (I think).

That night we were going to go to the LES but decided to just bar hop down Broadway in Astoria. Wonderful idea! First we went to the pool place right near the subway and 31st. Then we went to Janna which is a hookah bar, with apparently no liquor yet people were drinking wine. There was fun loud music and dancing and im looking foward to going back. Then we went to a place that all the windows were covered and there was no sign we saw but when we walked in, it was packed! But everyone was smoking so we booked it. Then we went to Winegasm. Sexual little place just off Broadway on 37th. Very drunk bartender trying to do flame tricks and not really doing so hot. No pun intended. After that, we walked over to Grand Cafe, had some champagne to end the night at 3:30 and jumped in a gypsy cab home.

Updating

I officially have a job as a publicist, no ifs and or buts about it. I said I wanted to do something, dreamed about it, fought for it, and now its real. Kinda crazycool. It was a long strange confusing exciting and upsetting road but it looks like I finally have settled for a plan. Stick around here til November, come December, if all goes well I can be a counselor on Birthright and then stay an extra week or two with SRF cuz she will be living in Jerusalem by then. Once I get back, my lease will be up and it will be time for me to move to LA. I plan to visit in July to test the waters. I feel like everone imagines being in NYC for a little, but I live here, and I've done it so LA is kinda like my NYC. There is just something about the west coast that I feel like I belong to. Rachel and Raf plan on moving out there too so that is such an amazing thing. We will see what happens though!

I need to take more vacations. I value them greatly. I had a weekend off and went to Phoenix which was more then an amazing time. Almost life altering, which is what I was fearing but i'll talk detail when need be. Also went to Vermont which was a nice change of pace. Rachel's parents relocated up there and opened a restaurant which we worked at for the day. Click here to read a bit about them! Now im dying to go to a hot beach somewhere. I really miss the beach, and the sun. I can't believe how expensive tickets are to fly anywhere! I wish I could just get up and go with someone.

More recently, on Monday night my friends in the band, We The Living showed up for a show at The Knitting Factory. I've known these guys for almost 2 years now and have loved their music from the start (when they werent even We The Living!), and supported them in any way I could. I mean, I do love promoting things I believe in. So the next day, I do my usual internet browsing and LOOK what shows up... (http://perezhilton.com/2008-03-25-listen-to-this-piano-and-melody) It was so odd/exciting seeing JP's face and Benjis head on this site I work with weekly, and that I was just chillin with them in their van hours before. This is huge for them and i'd really like to know how they did it cuz well, thats what I do now for work. So happy for these dudes and wish them the best. Hopefully even bump into them in LA this summer!

Food Lover

One of the greatest websites I have stumbled upon is http://menupages.com/. Its been so convienient and helpful. Add to it http://hopstop.com/ and life could not be easier!

This past week Couri's office moved to the UES which is cool and all but as far as food is concerned, its a bit inconvienient. I love walking and all but its a bit of a hike to anything in the area. There is something, just far enough that you could walk but its a bit annoying. Wrap N Run is a great place I had been to once before and forgot about even though it was one of the coolest wraps I have ever come into contact with. The Thanksgiving wrap. It involved turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. A-Mazing. There is also a Barbq wrap I am looking foward to now with mashed potatoes, barbq sauce, chicken, etc. WOW.

The only thing thats also kind of annoying is that I was in the office and offered to get people some food and a response from one was literally "Oh thanks but I dont eat!". Hellllooooo PR world. I'll say this one thing now so when and if I ever do get caught up in this world, i'll have evidence that I was once a nieve, little intern. I LOVE FOOD AND I AM NOT GIVING IT UP FOR ANY JOB!

I went to a really sweet place the other day with my best friend Rachel. It's in Long Island City, called 5 Pointz. I love exploring new places! This one was particularly sick. I took tons of pictures and it still doesnt cover everything. If your on facebook, and your my friend, check em out. Im too lazy to put them on another site. Maybe some day. I miss creating art. Painting, sketching, etc. One day i'll pick up a canvas again.
