I call the treehouse!

I am amused by little things in life. I also am full of weird factoids and such. When I am amused by something, I want the whole world to know about it. (Maybe thats why public relations fits me so well!) Thrillist helps me out every once in a while with suggestions like Winvian to take your next vacation. Just peek and you'll be obsessed.

Beer Here!

About a year ago, an idea came to me. I was thinking, there should really be some type of website mapping device so people can map out great bar hops. I really should have acted faster on this idea because I have been seeing my idea popping up everywhere lately! I just saw mapfaced.com today. MY IDEA! There was another one like it a while ago on Thrillist.

Another idea that I should have acted on was a beer menu finder thingy. I really enjoy beer even though I can't really drink. I like tasting new ones, learning about them, etc. Places like Winking Lizard in Ohio and Croxley Ales and Village Pourhouse in NYC rock. But a lot of times, it would be nice to know where any particular beer is anywhere. Well Beermenus.com has brought my idea to a reality. I really need to be more proactive! Now if only I could find some Charles Wells Banana Bread Beer!

Life is like a box of chocolates...hot messy melted crushed ruined chocolates

We are in a heat wave. I love it. Except when you are already leaving work 15 minutes later then usual, its literally 95 degrees out, and you go into the gross subway to find an R train chillin and looking like its not going anywhere anytime soon. After 15 minutes of waiting, it was getting a little stuffy and people started approaching the conductor. She explained that an N train was stuck at Ditmars and no one could move til it was unstuck. Lets map this out. I am on 59th and 5th. Ditmars is the very last stop in Astoria. Happens to be where I am going but regardless, why couldnt other trains, including the R who really has not much to do with that line except in the city, as far as I understand it, just continue service up til Astoria Blvd, the stop before where the scene of the crime was going down? In any case, I am not a conductor nor a metro expert so, it is what it is.

The conductor didnt know when she would be moving the train again but didnt think it was anytime soon. This little blonde in front of me then shouts, "Who's going to 30th Ave in Astoria and wants to split a cab?" I figured, why not. Me, this little blonde, and another random lady get to the top of the stairs and little blonde sees a cab. She whistled and it pulled over. Dam this chic is my hero. We then proceeded to take hands down the most violent cab ride I have ever taken. We tried to talk to distract ourselves but puggle chat and job annoyances just would not cut it. We drove on the curb, ran red lights, hit 3 cars and a wall, tires screeched, people slided, it was horrible. I will admit, there are some times when I exhaggerate but this is the absolute truth. When we got to Cresent and 30th, both girls were like, this is far enough, and jumped out, each throwing me a $5. This amount would have been perfect if I was getting out a couple blocks up but I wasnt and I wasnt going to spend more then $5 on this cab ride nor stay in it a second longer alone. So I jumped out too. I then walked home from 30th. I wonder how far that actually is. Its really not a bad walk but in 95 degrees after the chaos that just ensued, it wasnt great either. I opted not to go to the gym after that. Glad I paid for a membership and havnt set foot in that place since.

While im on the subject of faulty subways...Every morning without fail I watch as downtown 6 trains whiz by and I wait my 10 minutes for my crowded ass 6 uptown to show up for one lousy stop. Today I counted 6 of them go by before I was pushed into my train. Its a horrible way to start a morning.

"If it wasn't this, it'd be something else."

There's people like this... http://www.jillzarin.com/blog.php?catid=2 and then there is me. The complete opposite. Badluck Becca. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murphy's_law) Murphy's law to the T, what can go wrong will go wrong. I try not to let it get me down to much, but sometimes it would be nice to just get a break. Many of my entries on this page are my little (and not so little) mishaps. Hiccups in life. I guess they make for a great story but it definately gets a little tiring. I was watching Elizabethtown and the dead fathers favorite quote is something that really struck me. (Morbid, I know.) "If it wasn't this, it'd be something else." That sums it up pretty well for me. I have learned that you can never prepare for whats to come enough. This sense of fearing something can go wrong at any time has brought out a positive quality in myself though. Take things as they go. Not that there is anything wrong with preparing, but im more of a go with the flow kinda gal now. I try to brush as much off my shoulders as I can. Doesnt always happen, but I try. Lifes too short to be mad at it all the time.

Reflecting

I wanted to write something yesterday as my friends were melting at graduation but I got caught up in my failing garage sale (Rachel and I made $17 together! :( ), dinner at Mojave, and The Darjeeling Limited (glad I bought it on a whim).

I can't believe its been an entire year since I have officially been a real person. My best friend Sarah called me crying. It was her first time alone in weeks because her roommates had finally left and she then realized it was over. I remember that exact feeling. Welcome to the real world grads.

Astoria is lovely

Yesterday I had seen in JoeyInAstoria that Bistro 33 was offering free beer and burgers in celebration of their 1st birthday. My friends and I were on to it like a fly to spilled honey. (I dunno) After work we walked over there and it was really pleasant. The beer was quality (Sam Adams Summer Ale) and the burgers were delicious. Thick and juicy with an assortment of pickles, lettuce, tomato, spicy mayo, peppers and onions with spicy sausage... They really outdid themselves for free. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and it felt like a real neighborhood community. The owner was out and about and loving life. I am really glad we went!

I finished a book in a week!

Side note: My work computer does not let me edit this the same way I can at home so this is me settting a template for edits later. But since I am bored out of my mind and work and generally dont have much time to work on this, I write here, and edit later.

I enjoy reading. But I am just not a fast reader. Textbooks and school type reading, I can rush through like a pro. But enjoyable books I am choosing to read, takes forever. I usually only have the opportunity to read in bed. I get through 3-5 pages, and im out cold. But now that I have my subway ride, its been helpful to move the process along a bit faster.

I had read a bunch of stuff online about "I Was Told There'd Be Cake" by Sloan Crosley. One day I found myself killing time in a bookstore and decided to buy it. I havent bought myself something in a while, and I just came from a pretty traumatic and pricey doctors appointment so I figured what the hell. After the doctor when I was little, my mom would always take me and my brother to McDonalds. Well since I was on my way to Chipotle to meet a friend, I compensated that need of a treat after the doctor with a book I really wanted.

Its a collection of essays from her life stories. I enjoyed it. I felt like she could be one of my friends. The first essay was by far my favorite. Couple quotes ill fill in later. For a quick, light and entertaining read, i'd reccomend it.

Stand Up For A Cure

My cousin works in the donations office at Sloan Kettering and she knows a guy named Jordan. Jordan started up this thing called Stand Up For A Cure (www.sufac.com). Stand Up for a Cure is a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating lung cancer through strategic partnerships with some of the finest medical institutions in the world.

This past Monday night, they had a show and I went with my mom, aunts and cousin. Jerry Seinfeld performed stand up with an intro from my old friend Colin Quinn and Alec Baldwin. We wanted to go to the after pary but my cousin couldnt find Jordan. :( For some reason since the show I havnt gotten the visual out fo my head of a joke Jerry made. "Butts are just seat cushions."

Sightings: Jamie Lynn Sigler (gorgeous), Bethany from Real Housewives of NY, with bf Jason (interestingly discussing Jerry's marriage skit), an older guy my mom knew, Dann Florek from Law & Order SVU, Lizzie Grubman, and America's Next Top Model, Jaslene.

I'm waiting to see any press that comes out about it. It was a really great event and I am really glad I was able to go.

I made it out alive

The Hamptons was pretty nice for the most part. I kinda hate referring to it as The Hamptons BUT in this case, I am referring to more then one...Southampton and East Hampton was where I split my time, so really, what other choice do I have? We took the train out which was a fun Jelly Bean filled time. Walked the half mile to the house and got provisions for the crazy night to come of the movie, Sex and the City.

I was kinda excited/honored to be seeing it with Chris because for the past (whenever the trailer was leaked first), we have been watching the trailer and been getting pumped. We walked through town because we didnt have a car out there, but it was a nice walk, minus the chill and smoggy weather, to the theatre. I was alone in line eating my nacho cheese and the girl behind me pushed me. She was beastly so I didnt say anything but then she screamed "GET PUMPED! I COULD SCREAM!" Eventually Chris and Malisa came to join me in my people watching activities on line and once seated in the theatre, it was a time not to dissapoint. Girls in dresses, men in sweaters swooping sleaves like it was their long hair, awkwaardly asking to sit next to females, so creepy, women in and out sticking their fat asses in our faces as the poop scene was going on. Fabulous stuff. The movie itself deserves its own entry but all in all, I was not very happy. They seemed extremely more annoying and intolerable. Plots didnt seeem as believable. I hated Miranda even more. Her teeth, her lip, her boobs, her hair, ugh. It was fun because it was Sex and the City but as a movie alone, not thrilling enough for me. I wouldn't rip it a new one though. We walked back and went to bed after that, taking advantage of the fact that Sugar Daddy wasn't in town yet.

Sugar Daddy is a show the owner of the house is filming with his friend and some sluts. A guy, R, takes around some "ladies" and films stuff. The trailer is probably still running on repeat in the house. Personally, it would never make it on tv, but Youtube would probably have a field day!

That Saturday, Malisa and I walked around town. I found out I didn't dream about the cannons in the middle of the road. I had been here before! We then frolicked through a field, visited a client, and went back to get ready for the event but not before I spent money I dont really have on a scarf with peace signs on it from a store that took a lot for me not to buy everything. (It was called LF.)

The event was at our clients house which is how we got involved. Possibly the most beautiful garden/property I have ever seen. I wish I could have looked around more but it was staight to business for us. With a minor issue of personality problems, everything seemed to work out well. The food was incredible. Chris, Malisa, Ariel and I shared a cab back and I am pretty sure the cab driver was either sleeping and snoring or dying on the spot. Based off the smell, i'd pick dying. We went to dinner on Main St and a local bar, Barristers. We were definately not up for any clubs. I found it entertaining to think one week, Leonardo DiCaprio could be in here and the next, im in there with some drunk girl who looked like she was from 1992, talking to a guy next to me about her past meth addiction.

At 3am I shut the light for bed (which exsisted and wasnt terrible, nor was the room we were in, so I was happy because I was warned of broken promises going out there about beds and other accomodations) and at 3:01am Sugar Daddy and the ladies returned home. I am so glad I never got in the hot tub earlier!

Thankfully the rainy weather passed by Sunday. I felt like I hadn't seen the sun in days. We layed out by the pool and then headed to the beach before heading home on the Hamptons Luxury Liner. Note to self, just wear freaking suntan lotion.

And that, ladies and gents, is how I spent my first weekend in The Hamptons.
