Jewish Christmas

I am THAT Jew. I went out with my friends to a movie and Chinese food. We saw Nine. Thumbs down. I didn't know what the movie was going to be about because the previews really don't explain anything except that its an all star cast with singing. After seeing the movie, its still pretty unclear but regardless of the negative reviews, we still went.

Basically this guy Guido, played by Daniel Day-Lewis (who I think is so talented) is this famous Italian director trying to make another hit, his ninth to be exact (aha!). He is plagued with writers block and somehow, certain women start singing for no apparent reason. No idea why Fergie was there looking like a pudgy tambourine playing cracked out slutty gypsy, or why Kate Hudson was running around as a singing writer either. Or why Nicole Kidman was crying and singing at the end. It was a rough one to sit through. I do have to give props to Marion Cotillard, who played the wife. She is so beautiful and nailed the Hepburnesque character.

People were falling asleep, getting up more often then any other movie I've been to, eating loudly. It was bad. Not to mention the technical difficulties during the previews or that someone not working at the theater had to shut the doors. It made things much worse that we were sitting in back of this lady wearing the most offensive smelling perfume. It was like rotting old musky...ew im gagging thinking about it again.

Trend Alert - Hot Toddy Oddy Oddy

Hot Toddy is the new black.

I was sick with what I assume was a stomach flu this past week. The day before it happened I read this blog post from Nonsociety's Jordan Reid, that for no reason in particular stuck in my head except for the fact that I thought to myself the next time I was sick I should try this.

I always say that three good things came from my relationship with the actor in LA: Lucy (she was sort of a gift from him), my BCBG wallet (my birthday present from him shortly before I found out he had been cheating on me for, oh, three months or so), and my go-to fever remedy. A few weeks after we first met I became very, very ill with a fever of about 102 (yes, I should have seen a doctor), and he told me his family remedy, which had me back on my feet within 24 hours.

(Disclaimer: I am obviously not a doctor, so please: take any medical advice I dole out with the requisite grain of salt. If you have a fever of 101F or higher, experience shortness of breath or stabbing abdominal or chest pains, expel colored mucus, or have any symptoms that last more than 7-10 days, see your doctor.)

MY EX-BOYFRIEND’S GO-TO FEVER REMEDY

1. Draw a bath, as hot as you can stand.

2. Climb in the bath with a hot toddy*, and drink the entire thing, no matter how miserably sweaty and overheated you get. Stay in the bath as long as you can stand, or until it begins to cool.

3. Immediately climb into bed and cover yourself with every single blanket in your house. You’ll be sweating profusely and desperate to throw them off, but don’t: the goal is for you to fall asleep, and for your fever to break. When I first tried this I woke up in a pool of sweat…but with a normal temperature.

Again, not a doctor…but it works for me. Try this at your own risk.

*HOT TODDY

Combine the following ingredients in a large mug:

1-2 shots brandy or whiskey

1 tbsp honey

1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

1 cup hot water

1 tea bag (I use English Breakfast)

Optional: cinnamon stick

Well the next day I got sick and heard HOT TODDY on TV twice and overheard someone talking about it. So strange which is another blog entry all together, but I wont get all Deepak Chopra right now.

Anyways, I should have taken this as a sign but I couldn't get myself to clean the tub enough to want to bathe in it (it's clean, I just have issues) and was also too sick to get the ingredients. Next time I guess but I hope I don't feel like this again for a very long time. If anyone does try it, let me know how it goes!

This just looks so soothing and comfortable to drink! Mmmmm.

The A List Blog

If I was better about blogging, I would have very similar posts to fellow blogger, Alanna Glicksman. I have a list of things I would like to write about and do with NYBuckeye but just haven't. The upcoming movie remake of Alice in Wonderland, Cupcakes, Chanukah... Just wanted to give the girl props and use her as inspiration. Have a feeling i'll start writing a lot more in the coming months. For the meantime, enjoy Alanna's as well!

Sessed - James Perse

One of if not the softest clothing lines I have ever felt was James Perse. My cousin gave me a t-shirt once and I was obsessed. But James breaks my heart because his prices are just bogus for me right now. I just found out he makes a lounge line and found out his pajama pant is only $89. Yes still pricey but pretty average for designers and well priced for the line in general. I think I know what I am getting myself for Channuka!

Via dei Mille

In tribute to my last week here and my love for the new chef, I wanted to post some pics of some of the best food I have ever eaten. Food porn, begin.
Best steak and portobello mushrooms I have ever had.
This is the chef's signature pesto dish and I love it. It is almond, basil and garlic with tagliolini pasta, manila clams and rock shrimp. Awesome.
Not such a beet fan but its pretty!
This is the softest octopus you will ever eat. Melts in your mouth I tell you! Oh and its matched with lentils and I was skeptical about it but its a great combo.

Marie Labbancz - Photographer and Adrienne C. - Event Planner

I like to think I am an artist at heart. I have it in my blood, my mom is an artist. Creativity is just something I thrive on. Therefore, I have always had an appreciation for photography. That combined with my love of wedding planning brings me to Marie Labbancz.

I found out about her because a friend of mine posted pics of her stepsisters wedding. The wedding itself was unfreakingbelievable to say the least. I loved everything from the bridesmaid's dresses to the flowers to the jewelery. When you see these pics, you will see what I mean.

She put the photo credit in the album so I went to check it out. There is a blog Marie keeps in addition to her site called, Art of Love, and I check it at least 3 times a week to see the new photos she puts up. She did 4 blog entries for this wedding. Check them out here. Seriously crazy stuff with this wedding but what Marie did with the photos is breathtaking. I can only hope to work with her in the future.

In my opinion, she is one of the best photographers I have seen. It's also nice because she includes details about the other vendors as well. Dress designer, event planner, florists, lighting, etc. All things not only an event planner is curious about, but what a girl in touch with detail is curious about. In a world like this, references and karma are huge and Marie gets that. She seems like a genuine person and I appreciate that.

In addition to Marie's photos, I also found out about the planner for the wedding. Her name is Adrienne and has her own company called Bespoke Affairs. I felt compelled to email Adrienne and she wrote me back the sweetest, encouraging email about getting started on my own in events and what not. I dont know if she realized how much that meant to me.

P.S. The bride is wearing Louboutins. IM OBSESSED!

To Speak or Not To Speak

Today my bookkeeper asked me what I thought about the whole Tiger Woods situation. We got into a discussion about when a client should not comment and when they should. She comes from a pr background as well so we got pretty into it. The end result was that we both agreed that in the case of being Tiger Woods, a.k.a. a ginormous public figure, as private as you may be, you should respect the world enough to clear the air. You dont have to get into details but at least make some kind of statement.

PRBC must have been listening in. They have a couple examples and its interesting coming from a sports publicist (Keith). Where was Tiger's? What have they been telling him? Where was Barry's when Greenhouse went down like 4 times in a week for various hearsay items last month? They told him not to say anything. But its one thing when its a legal matter like Greenhouse's but should it not be legalities, I agree with Keith. Its 2009 and people are going to disect every little thing. It should just be expected, no matter how private the person claims to be, that some sort of statement needs to be made. Like it or not, this is our world today.

But I also want to say, the media should lay off a bit. I know its kind of hypocritical, saying that this is the world and they have to deal with that but at the same time, they shouldnt have to. As I am typing this, Bill Maher is on Leno commenting on the situation and just said "Evening News should just change their name to "Guess What You Guys!"." This is so true. I wish the media wasnt such vultures and respected people but they dont and they wont. Its a cycle and I dont think it will be broken anytime soon.

Side Note: I'm really liking Billyboy right now. Never been such a fan but hes got some good points. Banks send him Identity Theft crap but they are a bank and should be protecting the money in the first place. Point, Maher!

PRBreakfastClub

I am loving, loving, LOVING this site called PRBreakfastClub.

There are so many things I have wanted to write about in my short public relations career but either don't have the time or don't know how to properly phrase. I stumbled on this site and it's like they took all my thoughts and nailed every single one of them. Just about every day I read their postings and its as if I wrote them myself. I feel like I can relate completely to these people.

There are a group of them. I actually found them on Twitter first. One person lead to another and then a link and HELLO I am reading everything I ever wanted to say! So cool. I just made my first comment today, about how a publicist's perfect client is an ex-publicist. I don't know how enjoyable someone not in the industry would find this but I think it's relateable regardless because of the way they write.

We Will Mayo, We Will Mustard, We Will Ketchup!

My computer is currently eating itself because I was downloading illegal shows of How I Met Your Mother. So the blogging has been at a standstill. I have been pretty busy with work and life but I finally have a second to catch up and have been itching to blog. I will have to add some pics at a later time.

Recently I've:
  • Thrown the One Year Anniversary for the restaurant.
  • Went to a wedding in the same place in Cincinnati that my friend Lucy had hers, except this time it was David's best friend and he was the best man.
  • Decided to move to Cleveland to live with David therefore
  • quit my job.
  • Been picked and planning another trip to Israel as a counselor on Sachlav for December 27th - Jan 8.
  • Planned a trip to Florida.
  • Got a job as Social Media Manager for this movie called Oy Vey! My Son Is Gay!
I feel so much better now! :)
