Day 7 - Hawaii Honeymoon

There are a couple of things that are associated with Maui.  One of those things is the Road to Hana.  Everyone says "It's not about Hana, it's about the ride there."  Basically, there is a ton of really amazing things to see along this absolutely ridiculous road...and we were pumped!

Part of the Road to Hana
A very cool perspective of what the majority of the road looks like.  Blind turns for 80 miles.

We were out by 8:30AM and tried to be prepared as best we could.  We filled up our gas tank, stupidly chose not to get a picnic for the road, and headed to mile marker...well we got lost within the first couple minutes, haha! Apparently the miles restart a little up the road so we were searching for a waterfall in the wrong place.  If you don't count that little mishap, our first official stop was to watch some surfing right next to the uber-cute surf town of Paia at Ho’okipa Beach Park.

Next up was Twin Falls. We parked and hiked for about 20 minutes and made it to what is the epitome of Hawaii in my opinion, swimming in a waterfall in the jungle.

David behind Twin Falls.

After that we tried Waimea Falls again, which was a bust, again (the first mentioned earlier). An OK hike but there were no falls so it was really disappointing when that is why we hiked for an hour.  I would have rather done something else if I knew they weren't visible.  Wasn't meant to be.

Anywho, we continued on down the road. OMG winding and turning over and over. I've never done anything like it. Just madness.  It got to the point that it was funny because it was so absurd.  David did a really great job navigating.  We passed gorgeous beaches and cliffs and valleys and a bunch of other falls we could see on the side of the road and finally stopped halfway for the famous banana bread.

After the scrumptious snack, we hit up  Wai'anapanapa aka the black sand beach. I was really looking forward to this specific stop but I didn't know why.  The weather was perfect and the second we parked and got there, it began to downpour.  Not a good sign but only a slight delay.  We tried to get to the beach but took a wrong turn and ended up in these awesome caves.  A great five minute detour hike.

Then we got down to the beach.  It was magical.  I can't explain the sound the water makes when it washes back into the ocean on the black pebbles but something about it was just so special.  It is such a beautiful and unique place.  I bottled up a very small amount of sand and wish I had brought a proper bottle even though I am sure it's illegal.  There were also other things to see there like a blowhole and an ancient, sacred burial ground.  The weather was still not great and we were starting to get really hungry so we didn't stay as long as I would have liked and I was sad to leave.  This is my new favorite place in the world. I loved it.

A view from the path heading to the beach.

Beach level.

Just past Wai'anapanapa is finally the town of Hana.  We were starving and I was panicked because there was nothing.  But then we saw this sign for Thai food.  It was a shack like structure off the main road called Thai by Prawnees.  With a very nice blonde local greeting us and "Mama", a little Thai (I think) lady cooking on the side and a hippy couple just leaving, this could have gone one of two ways.  Go figure, it was the best Pad Thai I have ever had in my life!  We spoke with the waitress/owner a bit who explained she moved up to Hana a couple years back because it is the only place left for authentic Hawaiians to live, however people like Oprah have started to infiltrate.  She was originally from Wailea, where all the big hotels are now.  She also let us know that the road we were contemplating taking home, which was stated as "illegal and against rental contracts" to take, was actually fine.  More on that later but if you ever find yourself in Hana, make sure you go see Mama and her crew for some delicious Thai.

Although we passed a couple of things on the road that we said we would hit up on the way back, the thought of going back the way we came was horrifying and there was a little more we wanted to see just past Hana.  So with a little convincing by our waitress, we continued on our path and decided to take the forbidden road. We passed a red sand beach and literally drive right by the Sacred Pools without realizing.  I was bummed about it but was concerned about getting home before it got dark so we just kept driving.  The road was pretty similar to what we took but at least there was far less traffic.  And then it got weird.

The road was not completely paved, as promised by the waitress.  Thankfully we had 4-wheel drive (and really no other choice).  It was like Mars meets the Golan Heights. I've never seen anything like it.  (Fast forward a day and we were speaking to a local who explained it like "driving on the moon.  It's like another planet out there.  But totally safe, you guys were smart to take that.  But also pretty courageous!")  It was a cool feeling though to know that we took the road less travelled and saw another beautiful side of Maui a lot of people don't get to see.

We made it home just as the sun set and took a breather before our strategically placed rewarding steak dinner at Duo, our breakfast joint turned steakhouse at the hotel.  Just as I was stuffing my face with the complimentary COTTON CANDY (sour apple flavor!!!) dessert that comes with the bill, we saw Rob Riggle.  See a celebrity at the Four Seasons, check.

Ralph Lauren Was Busy!

This past summer, Dylan Lauren was married in a design by her father and then shortly after, his son married Lauren Bush in what looks like a gorgeous Western-style Colorado wedding and in a dress also designed by him (with some help from Vera Wang).  Totally different looks.  Totally stunning dresses.  Oh and both featured in Vogue Magazine.

Hope E! Got A Prenup!

News spread today of Kim Kardashian filing for divorce from Kris Humpries after 72 days of marriage.  I can't say I am surprised but it's more then just that to me and I think for others too.

I think she's a hopeless romantic and perhaps was not always in it for the money as some suspect.  I think she wanted to find true love and be married more than anything else in the world.  I think Kris was also in over his head and star struck and wanted to make this last any way he could, ultimately sacrificing more than he expected.  I think E! fed her the poison of a wedding special that comes with money and more fame and hype, etc. and it was too hard to resist.

You get caught up in that stuff.  Even without all of it, imagine backing out of your wedding?  Not an easy thing to deal with.   Add to it having your life under a microscope (yes even though you asked for it), millions of dollars, major companies...basically a huge business deal, on the premis that you would marry this guy, but deep down inside, you realize it wasn't right when you were already far into it?  Maybe as an ideal person, you'd like to think you could walk away.

Now...The money. Not only did these people drop millions of dollars on their event, they profited from it.  They reportedly made $17 million off of their wedding.  That's about $10,000 an hour for the marriage.  I wonder if E! had a prenup also?  Make it last as long as our promos are on our site for your Fairytale Wedding or no payout.  Oops, how ironic.  Dam I would hate to be the assistant to return all those gifts to guests!

But on a serious note about the financials, what a waste!  It was a waste (for everyone but Kim and Kris) success or not.  That money could have fed a country!  Build a much needed NYC animal shelter.  Given homeless people new clothes.  Helped save some lives.  UGH the list could go on.

Then theres the gay marriage argument.  At first I didn't think it was fair to make her a poster child for this but then I thought about it and I changed my mind.  How absurd that these two heterosexual individuals are not just getting married but profiting for their marriage of 72 days, when gay people who have been in loving and committed and real relationships for sometimes 30+ years still cant legally be married?

Lastly, for now, why do so many people seem forget that marriage is work?  If you wanna be lazy and selfish, then dont get married in the first place.  Unless someone offers you $17 million dollars and you have no heart!

Also, when did Ryan Seacrest become Kim Kardashian's publicist?  He was the one who started the whole thing with a tweet.

Back to my first point of just the fact that she was in too far too fast.  Perhaps in hindsight, the fact that everyone is now joking about it, I'm sure it is hurtful to Miss Kim.  And I am sure she is wondering if she made the right decision from the start of all this.  But really, after all of this is said and done, who cares?!  She will move on and be fine.  And people and animals and the world will still be cold, hungry, suffering and poor.

Have a nice night.

Beyonce is Pregnant!

Musical royalty is in the works.  In what was one of the greatest announcements of all time, Beyonce announced her pregnancy on the VMA "Black" Carpet just moments ago.  Why was this so great?  Well, it's very happy news for her and her husband, Jay-Z but also, MTV decided they would only show actors from their own network at the MUSIC Awards.  So no-one was even watching B when she did this.  It's just genius.  Mazel tov!

AH-HA!

Steve on Shameless (um, show is so good!) a.k.a. Justin Chatwin has been reminding me of someone and it's finally come to me!  A younger Chris Hardwick (not that he's old).  What do you think?

Award Worthy Dresses

Last night were the 2011 SAG awards and I thought majority of the dresses were above par.  Narrowed it down to these top three but it wasn't easy:

 Sofia Vergara in Roberto Cavalli
 Mila Kunis in Alexander McQueen
Jennifer Lawrence in Oscar de la Renta

Red Carpet VIP Pass

Ever wonder what it's REALLY like on the red carpet?  CHAOS!  Mr. CelebBuzz himself records at the premier of The Switch and this gives a pretty accurate (yet I think somewhat calm) insider look on what it's like to be a publicist in the entertainment industry...

Ugh, again?

I'm starting to think she is just doing this on purpose (and for those of you who don't know, I am referring to her horrid fashion sense).  This is just her most recent disaster.  Don't believe me?  Don't trust my fashion sense?  Just google "Mischa Barton" and see for yourself.

MTV TJ Challenge 5

My Top Three MTV Moments:
1. Going to see TRL in Times Square.  I never actually made it into the studio but I remember on more then one occasion when our favorite guests would be in, groups of us would go and get a glimpse of the fun from those windows.  Seeing Carson wave from the window, watching the repeat later to see if we or our friends made it into TV.  Serious childhood memories.
2.  Every year in high school for the MTV Awards (movie and video), my friends and I would have viewing parties.  One year we dressed up like we were going to an awards show!
3. Watching Singled Out.  For some reason, I always remember watching that show after school with my little brother and babysitter.  It's just something  highly associate My MTV with.

Now, onto what I would ask a celeb in an interview...
Of coarse it depends on who you are speaking with.  But there are always the "go tos".  These are mine.
What is in your ipod right now?
If you could eat anything you want right now, what would it be?
Whats up? Whats next? Whatcha got in the works?
And if it's an musical artist, where have you played your favorite show and why?

Celeb Twitterers

MTV posted their 4th challenge for the TJs.

Challenge 4 | Follow Me
Open for 3 days ‐ from 12:00am (EST) July 15 2010 to 11:59pm (EST) July 17, 2010.
Overview: Our TJ needs to be courageous and unafraid. We want to see if they can be magnetic and tactful enough to maintain the attention of a busy celeb. This challenge will prove that the TJ candidates can be persuasive, charming, and persistent.
Personal: If you could only follow one person on Twitter, who would it be and why?
Social: Convince one or more celebrities to follow you, support your TJ candidacy, and retweet you. If you already have a celebrity follower, you must try for another!
Fun at the Apple StoreI decided to get behind fellow NYer and PRBC lover, Brittany James.  I like other candidates but @Bitty_Boop has won me over.  Check out her website and every possible way to support/contact her here: http://flavors.me/brittanyjames

If I were her, I'd hit up publicists I know already since many celeb twitter accounts are their pr peeps OR at least listen to their pr peeps.  She already got that idea which is awesome. Go Team Brittany!
Too bad I'm not competing, I think I would kick butt at this.  I'll just now focus those energies onto my candidate of choice.
Some very random celeb twitterers I'd want following me:
@ladygaga cuz that'd just be awesome.
@drakkardnoir @NickiMinaj @liltunechi @iamdiddy @rustyrockets @snoopdogg @apulsk @russellsimmons @reggie_bush @Ogochocinco @moby @adrienne_bailon @iambenlyons @redhourben...  I found this site with them all: http://www.celebritytweet.com/

What celeb would you want endorsing you?

Celeb Weddings Galore!

According to numerologists, 7/10/10 is a lucky day.  That date being on a Saturday and wedding season being in its prime, it's no surprise three major celebrity couples chose it for their weddings.

In Georgia, Carrie Underwood, 27, wed Mike Fisher, 30 - hockey player.  According to Hollywoodlife.com:
"Among the ceremony’s rumored attendees were American Idol judges Simon Cowell,Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul as well as, according to some local residents, Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks. The incredibly tight security however and abundance of confidentiality agreements has made most information surrounding the ceremony very scarce."

Slightly north in a small city called New York and a small venue called Cipriani 42nd, a very public wedding between La La Vasquez and basketballer Carmelo Anthony tied the knot.

Guests like Kim Kardashian and Jonathan Cheban tweeted throughout the night.  Wedding planner extraordinaire Mindy Weiss was hired for the festivities which was a wise choice if I may say so myself.

Across the pond, The Office's John Krasinski and actress Emily Blunt were married close to George Clooney's Lake Como Estate in Italy.

I am sure pics will emerge shortly so stay tuned!  I can't wait to see them either!

Tie-Dye Nails!

Never mind the hidden message she wrote on them while appearing in court, Lohan's nails are tie-dyed and I kinda love them!

Why me MTV? I'll Tell Ya!

As I am sure you all know by now, I am campaigning for a spot in the MTV TJ search. This is my DREAM JOB and I am PSYCHED!

I have already asked for nominations via twitter, facebook and my blog but I feel lacking. I feel that I need to express why this is the perfect job for me and so behold, my essay. (If anyone knows the MTV genius' behind this contest, please feel free to pass this one to them!)

Why I Should Be MTV’s First TJ (In List Form)

by Rebecca Meyers

1. I am part of the MTV generation. Been watching it for years and don't plan on stopping any time soon.

2. Total music affectionado.

3. Pop culture is my specialty.

4. I am red carpet trained. Been to a few from my entertainment publicist days.

5. Know how to talk to celebrities/people in general. For some reason, conversation is just as easy with a billionaire movie star as it is for me with my neighbor. In fact, it has lead to many great times such as dancing with Snoop Dogg, a piggyback ride from Michael Strahan at his Superbowl Party and driving Lewis Black to the airport.

6. I never forget a face and treat everyone like a celeb.

7. I am somewhat tech savvy. Since the social media craze, people have been telling me I have a "talent" for it, whatever that means!

8. Love New York City, traveling and being at events.

9. Adjectives that describe me: creative, hard working, dedicated, motivated, adventurous, awkward, funny, witty, diverse, youthful (and apparently after this list, somewhat conceited).

10. Capable of being engaging and appropriate, even in 140 characters. Also very audience conscious.

12. I need a job, want this job, and read the entire contract and am 100% eligible!

So there it is in the smallest nutshell I could think of. Of coarse I'll be following up with a video as well, keep an eye out for that soon.

If this totally convinced you that I am the girl for the job, please follow me on twitter @beccameyers, facebook friend me - Becca Meyers, and post to all of your friends after you go vote for me, @beccameyers at http://tj.mtv.com/open-nomination/

Thanks!

FaSHUN

Ridiculous seems to be the theme of the century. With folks like LMFAO, Katy Perry and Johnny Weir constantly making statements, there was no surprise of these costumes on the MTV Movie Awards this year. It's no longer about what looks good or bad but what wows the crowd. It takes a certain person to wear crap like this. I don't think Ms. Perry tried on a blue wig and said, "Dam I look hot and stylish and should probably win awards for this outfit!" As silly as it is, why not do it?! I give em all props!

On a great fashion note, my vote for best dressed goes to Sandra. In an Oday Shakar dress, Louboutin shoes, and a Gurhan ring. Betty White even made the joke, "Never wear that dress backwards!"
