The Art of a Tourist Photo

A friend of mine recently posted this photo with the caption "This is what happens when you ask a stranger to take your photo in front of the Statue of Liberty!"

I couldn't help but crack up from it.  This is one of my pet peeves!  (That and the other one where they actually can't figure your phone camera out and just close the app instead of taking the pic.)  Why is it so difficult to get a stranger to take a decent photo?  It's hard enough just to get the stranger in the first place so when you realize they took a bad photo and want another, they are on the move and you need to start all over again!  Then you have to wait til they are out of sight so you don't offend them, and you come off as anal to the next do-gooder because you don't want to repeat the whole process again!  Oy, it's exhausting!

Tourists, this is my solution - We live in a digital age.  This gives you the luxury of taking a bunch of photos and selecting the best.  Therefore, just take a bunch of different ones and ask yourself, would I like this photo for myself?  And keep in mind, chances are if you are in front of a landmark, you'd want to include that in the photo too.  Why is this such a hard skill for some?

Hope E! Got A Prenup!

News spread today of Kim Kardashian filing for divorce from Kris Humpries after 72 days of marriage.  I can't say I am surprised but it's more then just that to me and I think for others too.

I think she's a hopeless romantic and perhaps was not always in it for the money as some suspect.  I think she wanted to find true love and be married more than anything else in the world.  I think Kris was also in over his head and star struck and wanted to make this last any way he could, ultimately sacrificing more than he expected.  I think E! fed her the poison of a wedding special that comes with money and more fame and hype, etc. and it was too hard to resist.

You get caught up in that stuff.  Even without all of it, imagine backing out of your wedding?  Not an easy thing to deal with.   Add to it having your life under a microscope (yes even though you asked for it), millions of dollars, major companies...basically a huge business deal, on the premis that you would marry this guy, but deep down inside, you realize it wasn't right when you were already far into it?  Maybe as an ideal person, you'd like to think you could walk away.

Now...The money. Not only did these people drop millions of dollars on their event, they profited from it.  They reportedly made $17 million off of their wedding.  That's about $10,000 an hour for the marriage.  I wonder if E! had a prenup also?  Make it last as long as our promos are on our site for your Fairytale Wedding or no payout.  Oops, how ironic.  Dam I would hate to be the assistant to return all those gifts to guests!

But on a serious note about the financials, what a waste!  It was a waste (for everyone but Kim and Kris) success or not.  That money could have fed a country!  Build a much needed NYC animal shelter.  Given homeless people new clothes.  Helped save some lives.  UGH the list could go on.

Then theres the gay marriage argument.  At first I didn't think it was fair to make her a poster child for this but then I thought about it and I changed my mind.  How absurd that these two heterosexual individuals are not just getting married but profiting for their marriage of 72 days, when gay people who have been in loving and committed and real relationships for sometimes 30+ years still cant legally be married?

Lastly, for now, why do so many people seem forget that marriage is work?  If you wanna be lazy and selfish, then dont get married in the first place.  Unless someone offers you $17 million dollars and you have no heart!

Also, when did Ryan Seacrest become Kim Kardashian's publicist?  He was the one who started the whole thing with a tweet.

Back to my first point of just the fact that she was in too far too fast.  Perhaps in hindsight, the fact that everyone is now joking about it, I'm sure it is hurtful to Miss Kim.  And I am sure she is wondering if she made the right decision from the start of all this.  But really, after all of this is said and done, who cares?!  She will move on and be fine.  And people and animals and the world will still be cold, hungry, suffering and poor.

Have a nice night.

Rant About Twitter

Sometimes my posts are for your entertainment.  Sometimes they have a bigger purpose.  Sometimes they are for my personal sense of remembering things I did and act as a diary of sorts.  But sometimes, I just need to vent and this is one of those times.

About that twitter post you just sent to the entire world to read; directed at only one person who is not me: You're interesting on twitter and a valid resource to follow.  But I KNOW you "get" twitter, so those personal messages directed at one person, broadcast for the entire world to see is clearly NOT by mistake.  Text message, BBM, email, PHONES (remember those?!)...they all still exist you know and are perfectly capable of telling someone you have to speak with them.  You obviously want everyone to know you have this relationship with the person you are messaging and frankly, it looks pathetic on your part.  It's childish and unprofessional (and I say that because you broadcast this from a somewhat professional voice). Sure I want to know your little secret but if I didn't know you were telling secrets in the first place, I wouldn't care.  So mission accomplished.  You've made us all feel like we are back in 5th grade and personally, I hated it so now, I hate you.  OK no I don't really hate you but it's not cool what you are doing so knock it off please.  And thanks.  And have a nice day.

Facebook Furies

I would love to just sit down with someone at thefacebook.com and ask them why (and get answers to) my most burning questions about WHY they do what they do.

Why is there a friend limit?
Why can't I search friends easily?
Why does the general search suck so much?
Why does it freeze when someone tries to chat me?

What do you dislike about it?

What The...?

You know those security things websites sometimes ask you to do before you post something? This was mine today.
Your guess is as good as mine.

Recipe For NYBuckeye

Been doing a lot of organizational thinking. I have come up with a recipe for what my blog currently contains and what I will continue to blog about. I feel like this is a place for people from all different backgrounds and sometimes people just can't handle the mishmosh.

Hmmm maybe I need a webpage with tabs for the separate categories...yea I like that idea. Great! A new project, I wonder how long this will take me to get going?

RECIPE FOR NYBUCKEYE BLOG

1 pound of Public Relations (entertainment & general)
1 pound of Event Planning
2 cups Pop Culture
1 cup Fashion
1/2 cup My Life
1/2 cup NYC/Cleveland
1 Tablespoon of Random

Throw in together, add a little spice, and let simmer and stew.
Enjoy!

Too Young

I have been thoroughly bothered by this for quite some time. I am hesitant to write but it was just fully blown into the public eye on Bravo's show NYC Prep last night.

I think it is creepy that people in their 20s are sucking up so hard to children. Example, blogger Micah Jesse and Ally Zarin. Also Ally and a couple other people. I get she's a cool girl, she's connected etc but she's 15. Its crossed the line of client and publicist, interviewer and subject. I just think its weird.

Last night on the show, it was called out but from the other side of the fence. As annoying as that Jessie fat face is, she made a superb point about a certain Miss Devorah Rose (after completely talking an amazing amount of shit about people not being from NY and being fake that was clearly directed at her). She was simply protecting her lover PC but in any event, she too thought it was weird a "20something" was all over this teenager.

NYMag recapped it quite nicely. I am just disturbed. Like I loved working with Mark Indelicato. He was like a little brother to me. But I wasn't tweeting at him on a personal level and inviting him to my own events. He's 15. Celeb or not, cool freaking kid or not. Its weird. Go friend people your own age.

Yes I suppose a couple kids this age are out and about in the clubs. Paris Hilton did it, Bijou Phillips, Lohan, etc. But now its completely in public. Its a different world and therefore a different game. Its not so much I'm worried about the 15 year old befriending a 25 year old. its more about the 25 year old befriending the 15 year old. Grow up. Its not like these are all adults and the gap is not relevant. It is.

I Mean, Really?

Get this, an airport in the middle of….Central Park. Talk about convenient, this makes the Highline project look like child’s play. [via guestofaguest via Airport Foundation]

I am pretty sure this is joke. But if it isn't, it makes me really angry.
"Amazingly, there is still a large, undeveloped and underutilized site in the center of New York City. In fact, this site has remained undeveloped for so long that many of us forget it even exists. It’s called Central Park. Ask most New Yorkers when was the last time they visited it. Statistically that number is fewer than one visit per person per year." This is so untrue and one of the most absurd statements I have read.

THIS IS WRONG

In my job search on Craigslist today I found this posting. It angers me so much I can not even explain to you. This is the reason why I don't have a job. There should be a law against this. It angers me more because there will always be people out there who will take these jobs and think its just paying their dues. THIS IS AN ASSISTANT POSITION NOT AN INTERNSHIP.

You cant eliminate assistant salaries by just calling it an internship. That should be a crime. I was really tempted to write to this person and tell them what they are doing is wrong but I wont. My form of lashing back will just have to be my blog post missing contact information. Proceed to read this and tell me if you think that this even makes sense to you.

FEMALE INTERN wanted to work for HIGH PROFILE/FUN NY company
Reply to:
Date: 2009-07-06, 12:52AM

THIS IS AN UNPAID INTERNSHIP with a small MERIT-BASED bonus/stipend at the end of the internship.
The intern will be working for a HIGH PROFILE, FAMOUS New Yorker. You will be involved in every aspect of her company- PR, marketing, event planning, administrative assistant tasks, scheduling, phone calls, helping with filming of media, charity work, etc. Everyday wll be different.

This is an ideal position for someone who is in college or grad school and wants a full-time summer job now and then part-time in the fall or someone who just graduated from school and is looking for an internship that has the possibility of turning into part-time or full-time employment. IDEALLY the person would be able to continue to work part-time during the school year, or possibly full-time in the fall. It could also work for someone who is looking for college credit.

We are looking for a FEMALE intern to work for a high profile NY company. This is a position for someone who is looking for very good experience and something to put on your resume. There will be a small merit-based stipend given at the end of the time period as long as the work is well done, but this is an UNPAID position. It is only good for someone who is looking for experience not money.

It should be a FEMALE who lives in NYC or in the NY area and who has easy access to the city at all times. She should be upbeat, energetic, and VERY well organized. She needs to be VERY proficient with Outlook and Word.
You MUST have a BLACKBERRY or Iphone that gets emails instantaneously.

This needs to be a person who can juggle many tasks at once, knows how to work for a person who has a lot going on and who can handle working with someone high profile.

Most days, you will be working from your home with constant interaction with the CEO of the company as well as the head adminstrative assistant as well as some days working from a home office that is located in midtown Manhattan.

There will be a few weekends where you will be required to be in the Hamptons and will be provided with housing for that time.
ONLY apply- if you are fine with an unpaid internship, if you like the idea of working from your home everyday (this is not a Fortune 500 company with an employee cafeteria),and can juggle lots of things and you are independent/self motivated.
Please send an email with a resume and any other information that you think would make us hire you. This is a position where you will be in the public eye sometimes, so appearance and the way you present yourself counts a lot.

Thank you

NOT news

This is absurdddddddd. It actually enrages me that how to wash your hands properly is apparently newsworthy. I am hearing that there are signs in workplace restrooms with instructions. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!!!????!!!

What about the Dutch Parade? (picture is tough to look at)
Or the fact that people are going mad overseas?
The Taliban is growing?

I feel old

So Twitter sucked me in. FML

Now I am curious. What is the best way to go about Tweeting? (Is that the correct term?) It looks like every person uses a different device. Absolutely crazy!

I actually just sat here and watched a tutorial video. FML again!

So far this is the best one: http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1909386

Not Working

My friends looking for jobs and I have realized something. Not only are there practically no jobs out there, but people just aren't getting back to each other either. It's very weird, and rude. You put out an ad to walk your dog. Are you really getting such an overwhelming amount of responses that you can't even say "Thanks but no thanks"? Also, what makes me so unqualified that I can't sit in a park with your dog and pick up his poop? I must be pretty pathetic. Its tough out there!

Twitter Cave In

I did the unthinkable. I went back on my word and joined the evil empire that is Twitter. My friend made a really good point. I can't have someone else take my name! Most likely I won't use it so much for my own updates but more for a searching source. FML

Hate the word/phrase "touche", but it fits well here.

Daily Show's Kristen Schaal made a line of clothing for Michelle Obama based on the issues she may be focusing on. For the Prop 8 explanation, "The OctoBabyBijorn, accented in gay pride rainbows,a reminder that in California you're an unfit parent if you're gay but not if you're straight, unemployed, live with your parents and have an Angelina Jolie fetish. Then you can have a whole litter!"

I hate bosses

I would just like to state that I HATE working for other people. I know most people do but I think I hate it so much, it will be motivation enough for me to just be an entrepreneur and start my own company. Event planning will be mine!

Poop Culture

There are two things going on in pop culture I feel like I need to just take some notes on.

#1 is this Phelps smoking a bong "scandal". The kid is A KID. He worked his ass off for so long, and behaved so well for so long (so we think anyway). Anyone who turns out results like that I am sure doesnt smoke on a regular basis anyway. He went to visit some friends and just wanted to relax and have some fun and just be normal. Newsflash people, college kids smoke pot. No not everyone does but fuck, lay off him.

OK he's supposed to be a role model. Well I think that it just shows that NO ONE is perfect and its OK to mess up sometimes cuz that is reality. The people that really matter a.k.a. his sponsors a.k.a. the ones who pay the kid, are letting it go which is sweet. Lucky as well, because apparently more people have sticks up their asses then I thought.

Before even hearing or watching about The View, I knew exactly how that table conversation would go down and sure enough, my psychic powers did not fail. Lizzy was disgusted and Whoppie put her in her place by saying what we were all thinking. You go girl.

#2 I don't even know how this started, and I'm a bit ashamed because it's part of my job, but nonetheless, this whole Jessica Simpson being "fat" nonsense. Tabloids disgust me. The bitch gained some weight, who cares! Shes not unhealthy anymore, good for her! Most people in this world are NOT stick thin.

But I have to say, more of what made me want to write something on this subject was that my disgust obviously is felt just as much by other women in Hollywood as well and I am SO GLAD to see them sticking up for her. These crazy accusations happen all the time to celebs, and it would be impossible for their peers to defend each other each and every time, but it's refreshing to see that when some things do get really out of hand and just wrong, they will say something. I just felt like I had to get that off my chest.

NYC Renting

SUCKS!

After a long week of searching, Jen and I thought we found a place. Long story short, didn't work out. What the hell is wrong with brokers? I've never met such scam artists in my life.

Now we have to wait until Monday to see if we get approved for another apartment. The whole process is the most ridiculous thing I have ever experienced. I don't even want to think about what will happen if this doesn't work out.

This Is Why New Yorkers Are Always Pissed

I can't wait to see what the end result of this asinine plan will be...

The Ex

I thought it was just me but my whole office just agreed, it's definitely attack of the ex week. They have this sick sixth sense when you are happy, to stick their noses in your life again. It's so effing annoying!
