Emmy Highlight

When the nominees were announced for Female Comic Actress, they all came up.  It seemed unplanned at first but it was in fact scripted.  It was a cute little number all the ladies did and even cute when Melissa McCarthy won and was "crowned" as if she just won a pageant.  I am waiting for the video to emerge and until then, here are some pics from various sources.

Emmy Awards 2011 Fashion

There was the red trend.

(Courtesy of E!)

There was a mermaid trend.  There was a plunging neckline trend. Which did I like best?  Well...
Showing some slits from Sarah Hyland in Christian Siriano and Tony Ward on Jennifer Carpenter.
Some red with Kate Winslet in Elie Saab and Kayley Kuoco shoes with her Ramona Keveza dress.
Glamour in Elisabeth Moss in Marchesa and a vintage dress on John Hamm's leading lady.

Oh and Minka Kelly in Dior.

Also, something fun is seeing the dresses that were on the runway.  Red Carpet Fashion Awards.com does this.

Bright Lights, Bigger City on SNL

E! did it with Khloe & Lamar, so will they do it with Kim and Kris?  Page Six reports that she will be looking into New York City apartments to be closer to her newest beau which got me thinking.  I bet they will come up with a crazy offer for a finale wedding of Kim & Kourtney Take New York!

Would you marry someone for a million dollars?  I would consider it depending on the circumstances.  But if circumstances say you're already a millionaire and been married before, would you do it for showbiz?  When is enough enough?  I think she would.  E! would be offering a hopeless romantic her dream wedding for the stunt.  Sadly I think she can't say no to that (which also gets me going on the definition of marriage, but I wont get into that now).  Also, I'm calling it now that it will be more then Khloe got and it will cause some friction even if it's not on camera, you can bet on that.

Sidenote:  I dont know these people and I am always a firm believer in not judging anyone in general and especially if you don't know them but it's hard not to judge when they put it out there for you to judge (follow that? haha). I don't doubt Khloe and Lamar were in love and planned to marry anyway.  Thrilled to see that from the outsider's perspective, it all seems like it is working out.  Great for them! But Kim is different.

R.I.P. Steinbrenner and The Hills

Yankees powerhouse owner George Steinbrenner passed yesterday morning.  The Times article linked sums up his life pretty nicely.  Did you know he was from Cleveland?  Did you know the infamous character who played his voice in Seinfeld was Larry David?  That he was barred from baseball not once but twice? He also owned a stud farm in Florida?

Another death tonight, The Hills.  In what I thought was a superb ending of a "scripted reality show", the background drops and the characters come back and go live their lives.  BRILLIANT!  If you are really bored, watch earlier episodes and see how different the characters look now.

Rob vs Mason

Just watching TV and Kourtney Kardashian's son looks so much like Rob her brother! Apparently it's fairly obvious as she even blogged about it:

While I was google photo searching, I just wanted to make a side note that I pray to the heavens that when I am pregnant, I look this great:

Why me MTV? I'll Tell Ya!

As I am sure you all know by now, I am campaigning for a spot in the MTV TJ search. This is my DREAM JOB and I am PSYCHED!

I have already asked for nominations via twitter, facebook and my blog but I feel lacking. I feel that I need to express why this is the perfect job for me and so behold, my essay. (If anyone knows the MTV genius' behind this contest, please feel free to pass this one to them!)

Why I Should Be MTV’s First TJ (In List Form)

by Rebecca Meyers

1. I am part of the MTV generation. Been watching it for years and don't plan on stopping any time soon.

2. Total music affectionado.

3. Pop culture is my specialty.

4. I am red carpet trained. Been to a few from my entertainment publicist days.

5. Know how to talk to celebrities/people in general. For some reason, conversation is just as easy with a billionaire movie star as it is for me with my neighbor. In fact, it has lead to many great times such as dancing with Snoop Dogg, a piggyback ride from Michael Strahan at his Superbowl Party and driving Lewis Black to the airport.

6. I never forget a face and treat everyone like a celeb.

7. I am somewhat tech savvy. Since the social media craze, people have been telling me I have a "talent" for it, whatever that means!

8. Love New York City, traveling and being at events.

9. Adjectives that describe me: creative, hard working, dedicated, motivated, adventurous, awkward, funny, witty, diverse, youthful (and apparently after this list, somewhat conceited).

10. Capable of being engaging and appropriate, even in 140 characters. Also very audience conscious.

12. I need a job, want this job, and read the entire contract and am 100% eligible!

So there it is in the smallest nutshell I could think of. Of coarse I'll be following up with a video as well, keep an eye out for that soon.

If this totally convinced you that I am the girl for the job, please follow me on twitter @beccameyers, facebook friend me - Becca Meyers, and post to all of your friends after you go vote for me, @beccameyers at http://tj.mtv.com/open-nomination/

Thanks!

Glamping

Randomly watching this show on the Food Network called Private Chefs of Beverly Hills and a couple things were going through my head. Remember that gym show Workout? Well the trainer Jesse is one of the chefs. Also, it's a shame rich people are so obnoxious and rude and spoiled.

Just as that thought was going through my head, the word Glamping hit my ears. Apparently, there is a way to go camping in luxury. I can't decide if I am pro this idea or con. If I am going to spend the money, I may as well get a cabin, no? Some of these "tents" look pretty sweet though.

Oh and PS the people that do this are called Glampers!

SNL Hysterics

I haven't laughed at an SNL skit in a while but Bill Hader's character, Stefon on Weekend Update had me laughing so hard. Just watch!

FaSHUN

Ridiculous seems to be the theme of the century. With folks like LMFAO, Katy Perry and Johnny Weir constantly making statements, there was no surprise of these costumes on the MTV Movie Awards this year. It's no longer about what looks good or bad but what wows the crowd. It takes a certain person to wear crap like this. I don't think Ms. Perry tried on a blue wig and said, "Dam I look hot and stylish and should probably win awards for this outfit!" As silly as it is, why not do it?! I give em all props!

On a great fashion note, my vote for best dressed goes to Sandra. In an Oday Shakar dress, Louboutin shoes, and a Gurhan ring. Betty White even made the joke, "Never wear that dress backwards!"

MTV Movie Award Theory

Twilight stole the awards all night long. No surprise. I am NOT on the Twilight bandwagon but pretty much every girl age 12 - 60 is. So when it came time for the final award, Best Movie, I wanted it to be Hangover because it was clearly the best movie but was not so much surprised but disappointed in Twilight winning.

Why though? It's MTV! Think about it. Their average age viewer is what, 12-18? Twilight is the nobrainer here! Half the actual audience of MTV probably doesn't even understand most of the Hangover jokes and they certainly can't relate to them. The last thing on a 15 year olds mind is getting married and having a bachelor party.

BUT...

So many of us elders are still watching these ridiculous award shows, so its just bound to be disappointing to us. It really isn't that big of a deal but at the same time I feel like even though the network isn't necessarily aimed at our demographic, the award shows are.

Side Note on Twilight/Kristen Stewart: The girl is painful to watch! She needs to get over the awkward, anxiety, stage freight thing ASAP. It was cute at first or whatever but like, Twilight gave you your life dude! Don't look so freakin uncomfortable when someone is talking about you or your movie. Don't look like and act like its torture to walk up and receive yet ANOTHER award. Don't refuse to do interviews on the red carpet of the award show from the people who literally fill your pockets with your paychecks. Take some drugs or something, perk up, grow some balls and ROCK IT! At least as her publicist, that is what I would suggest!

That's just my piece of mind. That said, I thought the awards show in general was great this year. Aziz Ansari, who I was skeptical about, rocked. No surprise either that the bleeping was way off. So many F-Bombs! Also, I adore Sandra Bullock. She was given the Generation Award and gracefully accepted by saying, "Can we all just go back to normal now and continue to make fun of me? Say a prayer for the people in the Gulf." She really is a humble human being AND looked HOT. I loved her dress and Louboutins. My question here though is if she was getting the award because of the current circumstances? Like I just said, I think she's a great person but no one gave this much of a sympathy vote to Jennifer Aniston or anyone else I can think of in the cheating marriage situation. I don't argue the award wasn't deserved and don't wanna be a hater. I'm just curious.

LOST Finale

RIP Lost. You've tortured me for 6 years and in true fashion, left me hanging, pissed off and questioning for life.

Some colleagues takes:
"I think I am pissed, but I need a couple days to let it settle."
"I called this ending years ago! "
"LOVED IT!"
"Still so many questions unanswered."

I agree with all of the above statements. There is a great article from Time that makes it make some sense. I miss a lot when watching and I have two major questions. 1. Why was Jack so willing to let Desmond down into the light and to work with "Locke"? Did I miss some conversation where he was like, "I'm going to kill you but first let's try your way?" 2. So does Ben stay true to his nature and pussy out? He wants to be part of a group and be special so badly but when he's invited to join them, he declines. Is it because he is truly not special or just being a weirdo or afraid of dying? But isnt he already dead if the flash sideways is purgatory? AH!

Also now I want a final final season of how everyone actually died. Another side observation I made was that a lot of viewers last night have never watched an episode before and these outsiders seemed to think it was quite an intriguing show. The funny thing is now they may go watch DVDs and that is how I originally got hooked. Wonder how it will effect those sales. My roommate never watched until I moved in and we both still have the same questions watching it so it really never made a difference when you jumped in because no one knew what was going on, which I found brilliant.

For those who have the time to read (I don't):

It's Always Sunny in Sex and the City

What is one of the greatest episodes of It's Always Sunny In Philidelphia, "Who Pooped The Bed", here is a snippet of Sweet Dee running into a car after trying to steal expensive shoes that don't fit her because she is trying to be more like the girls on Sex and the City. Plus, Artemus is one of the greatest characters and besides The Nightman Cometh, this is her best work.

Kell On Earth Season Finale

Sadly it's au revior to my favorite show of the season. There isn't too much commentary on the actual workings of PR for this blog entry. I am sad to see it go.

One of the reasons I loved the show was the interaction the "cast" took upon themselves on twitter. They live commented on the show, answered and retweeted watchers, and really took reality tv to a new level. Kelly herself has responded to one of my tweets which was awesome and in fact as I am writing this, Kelly's assistant Andrew just answered a question I had! @AJMukamal: recession duh! RT @BeccaMeyers: @AJMukamal WHY would you take the subway with that cake?!?! #kellonearth

I gotta give credit for Kelly jumping on that bandwagon and recognizing that these marketing and social media aspects are key, such as the viral video. She gets that and I think any company that doesn't are missing a key aspect. I don't know if I would go as far as to say she is "pioneering the revolution" but she's pretty bad ass for producing these for such major players in the industry.

I hope Bravo signs them on for a second season. That would be just fab! :)

P.S. In this episode you see this DKNY shoot and they are in front of a graffitied side of a building right around the corner of their office. I LOVE this wall! I would see engagement shoots taken there and I even posted a pic from my favorite part of the wall TODAY on facebook.

Fran vs. Sophia

I was just watching Sophia Vergara (from Modern Family) on Leno. I like her more and more when I watch her do interviews. She was hysterical on Ellen and just gave Gerard Butler a run for his money, literally. Did you know Sophia is a natural blonde? If Fran Drescher was a vuluptious, not so obnoxious sounding, classier, hotter Columbian, I'd say they could be sisters!

Kell On Earth Episode 7

"Tough Times"
live blog

It sucks when people don't pay. All my readers and friends now how I feel about this. I'd only be repeating myself so I digress.

Sink or swim: How I find many offices to be in the industry.

Pick your brain issues! How many times have we heard this hot topic?

Another issue recently brought up in life as well as the show, is the distinguishing between personal life and work life. Part of the thing about loving your job is you don't care if you are always working. In your mind, you know it's work but you don't mind because you enjoy it or get off on it. Sure you like to complain about always working, but that doesn't mean you actually mean it. It definitely becomes a problem when your personal life falls apart due to it though. This is when you really have to evaluate your life and think about what you want. Sometimes, gorgeous wonderful boyfriends who don't do much professionally need more attention then you can give them and you just have to let go. I feel for Skinner. I respect her decision. Some people may not. It's a personal thing. Only you can determine when to draw the line. It can be done. It's just a matter of how much you want it to be.

With that said, some people are skeptics about Kelly getting all up in the personal lives of her staff but really, you spend most of your time with these people. It would be more awkward if they didn't have these personal talks in my opinion. When I was with my working crew, they were my best friends. Misery also loves company and since we were all "miserable" together, we only wanted to be with each other. Even doing non-working hours. Again, this plays into the whole, it's up to you thing I stated in the above paragraph. These small boutique places really are little families. I can assure you, when I had been in an office of 5 people for over a year and the boss who was absent walked by me outside the office standing with his maid an holding his dog no less, and he asked the maid who I was...not exactly a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

OMG I KNEW this girl they were interviewing looked familiar! She's the one from Whisper PR who stole all that jewelry! This was all going on while I was interviewing there.

I hate to pick on a 7 year old, but Ava seems kinda bratty. It's one thing to raise your child cool and smart and educated but it's another when they cross the line into pretentious. Then again, there's a TV camera in front of a girl who probably LOVES attention. Just sayin'.

Is Sanctuary T a client for Peoples Rev or just the closest spot for them to go to? If they aren't a client, they are getting great exposure on the show. I dig that place.

"To stay sane, you gotta go a little crazy!" I.E. Skinner in the spiked headband.

This Rick Ross thing just threw me for a loop. Kelly calls Rick Ross and starts free styling and I'm mystified that she just did that and then I see that its some random white dude. Kinda relieved!

Quotes by Kelly:
"We don't like reality, that's why we work in fashion!"
"We need to reevaluate our values and right now people do not want to buy a $2000 pair of pants. But unless people all go nude, they are going to need clothes."

I like that Kelly runs her company in an evolving state. She understands that nothing is static. Change is good.

When TV Comes To Life

Reno 911! came to life yesterday at work. I could not believe how accurate it was! For those of you who aren't familiar with the character T.T., she is this out-of-control local that rarely has a bra on let alone a shirt on. She screams and yells and most of the time, you don't know what she is saying due to her buck teeth. She's either drunk or high and always flailing.

The only visual I could find was this quick clip in a video at :36 seconds in.

I had the joy of witnessing what is no doubt T.T.'s inspiration. Meet this beauty:

Not to worry! She isn't dead, she's only faking it.

How did this begin you ask? Fortunately I was there to witness the entire thing. There is a man that comes in to clean the establishment. On this particular day, he chose to bring his wife for some help. Owner was not around but it seemed harmless enough.

Then she turned on the radio. Blasted it so the walls were shaking. Then she started fighting with her husband about Pinesol, taking his job from him, and other things I could not understand. Owner shows up and is not thrilled. There was some yelling, not sure what was said. But I understood owners words "Get her out of here."

Then I hear her scream and there is a slapping noise, I look down and my little owner boss is dragging this lady out of the establishment. The physics of it alone were mind boggling! After that, she just laid there. At first I thought she was unconscious, but saw her crack a little smile so knew she was faking. (I am also witnessing this from three stories above.)

Cops took 29 minutes to show up. Not good form Cleveland's Finest! While we waited, Husband is begging Owner not to fire him and explaining that she has four personalities. Apparently one of them woke up at that moment because she sat up and started screaming bloody hell. Then, fell right back down in the mud. Husband tried to pick her up, and she went dead weight on him, which made me snort in laughter. In all honesty, the whole situation was sad but let's be honest, I've seen some crazy shit in my working day but this was a chart topper. I knew I wasn't in harms way so I just went with it.

So for the next 29 minutes, she would occasionally shout things, clap her hands while yelling a bunch of things like "Ima hit you like a man" and others that were indistinguishable. She was finally taken away in the back of the car. But first, she tried to drop and roll (in cuffs), which was not a good idea because she ripped her shirt. Oops.

Poor owner got a black eye and I hear she spent a couple hours in a cell. Husband was back the next day so I guess it all got worked out. But wow! What an interesting day!

Television History

I'll admit I did not watch Ugly Betty until last year. Then Mark Indelicato, who plays Justin Suarez, Betty's nephew on the show, became a client. I cannot say enough how much I loved working with this kid. His family was wonderful and he has such a great team behind him. I miss him more then anyone else I've worked with and luckily still keep in touch.

I watch UB now because I think the show and he are just brilliant. Two weeks ago, I turned it on just as Betty was by accident playing a music video Justin created for Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance". I nearly peed my pants in hysterics. One of the first assignments I was given was to get him into a Lady Gaga show and it was impossible. After this performance, I am sure he could waltz right in! I wish I could find a clip to the video, or ABC would post it but I digress and will just post the ep. link for you to see. http://abc.go.com/watch/ugly-betty/93531/253657/fire-and-nice

As a teenage boy struggling with identity, the show took things to the next level. He wasn't thinking, he was DOING. I don't think the world could have experienced this with a better actor. I am so proud of him and the show for this huge step. It is really a shame on the cancellation because the show could really take this somewhere.

Pic from Mark's blog at his "Sweet 16" I sadly could not make it to. The girl is his best friend who went to the same summer camp as I did. Such a small world. :)

Intuition

Not gunna lie, I have a gift. For some reason I can usually pick up on trends and people that will last and or make a larger impression on people.

For example, one time I worked with this photographer at an event. Afterwards, we walked home in a rainstorm, parted ways after a laugh, and I. Was. Infatuated. I will admit, I may have stalked him a bit after but it faded fast. I do still try to keep up with him though because I realized it wasn't so much a crush on a guy, but I just had a feeling he was special.

When I became facebook friends with him, he had this photo album called Thug Life and its just his family hanging out pretending to be thuggish. It was one of the funniest things I had seen, because I just imagined my family sitting around doing stupid things like this (not that we did, it would just be funny if we did.) I thought I posted this in my blog a while ago but I cant find it:

Anywho, after my little crush died down, a couple months later he was in the news. He was doing a photo project and getting himself and his models arrested all over town for them dropping trou in public places like the subway and the MET. I was so proud of my little artist friend.

Now, after just seeing him in a split second screen shot in that atrocious reality show, High Society, according to guestofaguest.com, he will be the newest cast member on MTV's The City. Yet another step into the spotlight. Man can I spot em!

For those interested, Zach's photography page is zhfoto.com
