Twitter RT Experiment

Tuesday March 30: I decided that tomorrow (Wednesday March 31) I am going to do an experiment on Twitter. I am convinced that I can RT anything I possibly want to say. Results to come in 24 hours...

UPDATE 1 (Wed 4PM): I don't know what to do. Someone tweeted and I want to RT with a response. Does that count? I haven't had any problems expressing myself and updating my status at all yet! What do you think? I am going to rule this as OK.

UPDATE 2 (Wed 4:15PM): No one has tweeted at me yet BUT what should I do about responses? I guess I need to change my hypothesis a bit...

UPDATE 3 (Wed 11PM):
RESULTS
Overall it was a success. Besides the little hiccups above with the response situation, I was able to find and RT everything I wanted to.

But my final thought is that I prefer to be original. There are common things like "good morning", "Matzah brie and relaxing" and "Air Tran sucks" but I didn't get a single RT today on my side. I felt disconnected. I felt like it was less personal. One of the reasons I think I connect with twitter is because I can add my personality to my 140 characters and with simply RTing, that can never come out.

Kell On Earth Season Finale

Sadly it's au revior to my favorite show of the season. There isn't too much commentary on the actual workings of PR for this blog entry. I am sad to see it go.

One of the reasons I loved the show was the interaction the "cast" took upon themselves on twitter. They live commented on the show, answered and retweeted watchers, and really took reality tv to a new level. Kelly herself has responded to one of my tweets which was awesome and in fact as I am writing this, Kelly's assistant Andrew just answered a question I had! @AJMukamal: recession duh! RT @BeccaMeyers: @AJMukamal WHY would you take the subway with that cake?!?! #kellonearth

I gotta give credit for Kelly jumping on that bandwagon and recognizing that these marketing and social media aspects are key, such as the viral video. She gets that and I think any company that doesn't are missing a key aspect. I don't know if I would go as far as to say she is "pioneering the revolution" but she's pretty bad ass for producing these for such major players in the industry.

I hope Bravo signs them on for a second season. That would be just fab! :)

P.S. In this episode you see this DKNY shoot and they are in front of a graffitied side of a building right around the corner of their office. I LOVE this wall! I would see engagement shoots taken there and I even posted a pic from my favorite part of the wall TODAY on facebook.

Seder Quickie

I am on the search for the perfect Matzah Brie. In my searches, (with updates to come) I came across this Two-Minute Hagaddah for all jew impatients on Slate.com.

Opening prayers:

Thanks, God, for creating wine. (Drink wine.)

Thanks for creating produce. (Eat parsley.)

Overview: Once we were slaves in Egypt. Now we're free. That's why we're doing this.

Four questions:
1. What's up with the matzoh?
2. What's the deal with horseradish?
3. What's with the dipping of the herbs?
4. What's this whole slouching at the table business?

Answers:
1. When we left Egypt, we were in a hurry. There was no time for making decent bread.
2. Life was bitter, like horseradish.
3. It's called symbolism.
4. Free people get to slouch.

A funny story: Once, these five rabbis talked all night, then it was morning. (Heat soup now.)

The four kinds of children and how to deal with them:
Wise child—explain Passover.
Simple child—explain Passover slowly.
Silent child—explain Passover loudly.
Wicked child—browbeat in front of the relatives.

Speaking of children: We hid some matzoh. Whoever finds it gets five bucks.

The story of Passover: It's a long time ago. We're slaves in Egypt. Pharaoh is a nightmare. We cry out for help. God brings plagues upon the Egyptians. We escape, bake some matzoh. God parts the Red Sea. We make it through; the Egyptians aren't so lucky. We wander 40 years in the desert, eat manna, get the Torah, wind up in Israel, get a new temple, enjoy several years without being persecuted again. (Let brisket cool now.)

The 10 Plagues: Blood, Frogs, Lice—you name it.

The singing of "Dayenu":
If God had gotten us out of Egypt and not punished our enemies, it would've been enough. If he'd punished our enemies and not parted the Red Sea, it would've been enough.

If he'd parted the Red Sea—(Remove gefilte fish from refrigerator now.)

Eat matzoh. Drink more wine. Slouch.

Thanks again, God, for everything.

SERVE MEAL.

Published on PRBreakfastClub

What an exciting day for me! A while back I stumbled upon, blogged about, and faithfully follow PRBreakfastClub. They post daily about anything PR but I I enjoy it the most because it's written by fellow colleagues that not only speak my language but experience situations and have the same thoughts I do.

I've developed some great online relationships with a couple of the #prbc crew and just recently they asked me to guest blog on the very site I admire so much. I was honored, and scared! But alas, I immediately started writing the first thing that came to mind and the Evolution of An Unemployed which, although may not be a controversial or mind blowing piece of work, people can relate to, which is what I am seeing. It's slightly more fluffy then meaty but I am proud of it and thrilled to see all the support everyone gives each other.

Low and behold, my published work: HERE

Thanks for the opportunity guys! Looking forward to more of these opportunities!

Passover

Passover is on the way. Personally, just thinking of the holiday makes me crave bread and water. Matzah, ugh so dry! Luckily there is this thing called the internet and tons of things to make this holiday a little more bearable to my palate.

Like Aly Walanksy's Matzah Crack.
Modern Tribe's Passover Store (the Matzah gear like the baby bibs and yarmulke!).

I also just had a memory. My family used to go to my aunt's house on my dad's side. Her two daughter's married non Jews. Not an issue at all in the family but it made for interesting seder readings when we went around the table and they couldn't pronounce things. Anyway, I was never into my "Jewness" when I was younger and I immediately bonded with these dudes. We made up games throughout the years to keep ourselves entertained. One managed to last for years.

My aunt had these mini soaps in a dish in the bathroom and we hid one, just like an afikomen. I never found it the first year and the second year my uncle went back and got it, out of the potted plant in the library. Then I hid it and he didn't find it and I retrieved it the following year. This went on for about 8 years. I don't know how my aunt never found it!

What do you and your family do to get through the holidaze?

Something Is Coming...

Stayed tuned for something I am excited about!

Fran vs. Sophia

I was just watching Sophia Vergara (from Modern Family) on Leno. I like her more and more when I watch her do interviews. She was hysterical on Ellen and just gave Gerard Butler a run for his money, literally. Did you know Sophia is a natural blonde? If Fran Drescher was a vuluptious, not so obnoxious sounding, classier, hotter Columbian, I'd say they could be sisters!

Lady Gaga: A New Madonna Making Pop History

If I had to write an article on Lady Gaga, this would be what it would look like.
[Link to The Wrap]

She's had six No. 1 singles in 14 months, and her debut album is still No. 7 after 72 weeks.

By Dominic Patten

All this while accounting for over 321 million plays via free streaming on MySpace alone.

Her sophomore record has done pretty well, too. Coming in a regular and a deluxe edition, featuring a repackaging of “The Fame” along with eight new songs, 2009’s “Fame Monster” debuted at number 5 on the U.S. album charts.

In the U.K., as of this week, she’s got the No. 1 single with “Telephone” and the No. 1 album with “The Fame Monster.” In the past year and a half, she’s been No. 1 in Canada, Germany and Ireland and No. 1 in Australia, where she’s playing sold-out arenas until April 9 before heading over to Japan on her Monster Ball tour.

“She really runs the gamut in terms of demographics,” Silvio Pietroluongo, Billboard’s director of charts, told TheWrap. “She's on the Pop chart, the Electronic chart, she's gotten play on Rhythmic Top 40, which is more hip-hop, Adult leaning Top 40, Adult Contemporary and her albums are on the Billboard Top 200.”

She's also expanding into videogames.

On March 11, she debuted on the “Rock Band” videogame with “Lady Gaga Pack 01,” a downloadable selection of her first four number-one singles plus a cover of “Poker Face” sung by “South Park’s” Eric Carmen, the ultimate pop culture backhanded compliment.

Also on March 11, Gaga sold out her three shows at Madison Square Garden in less than an hour, and on March 19, debuted her 9:30-minute Quentin Tarantino-inspired “Telephone” video.

MTV may barely play videos anymore, but it played the lesbians-in-prison and BeyoncĂ©-assisted mass murder of “Telephone” after it debuted on E!, Universal’s VEVO site andwas watched over 13 million times on YouTube in less than 73 hours.

It didn’t have anywhere near the impact of Michael Jackson’s 14-minute “Thriller” video from 1983, but FoxNews ranted against it and everybody talked about it for a few days.

It even started up a bit of a controversy.

Discussing the racy video, Gaga told a Sydney radio station on Tuesday that "there are some people in this world that believe being gay is a choice -- it’s not a choice; we are born this way."

It only follows that she’s even got a lawsuit.

On March 17, Rob Fuari -- Gaga’s self-proclaimed ex-boyfriend, producer and co-writer of many of those hits -- slapped her with a $30.5 million lawsuit, claiming that the 23-year old Grammy-winning singer reneged on an agreement to pay him 20 percent of her earnings.

Gaga responded to Fuari by suing him on March 19, saying she was tricked into their “unlawful” agreement.

No hearing dates have yet been set.

(Charles Ortner, Gaga's lawyer in the case, declined to comment for this story. Fusari's lawyer Robert Meloni, who called Gaga's countersuit "ridiculous" according to the New York Post, did not respond to TheWrap by deadline.)

Kell On Earth Episode 7

"Tough Times"
live blog

It sucks when people don't pay. All my readers and friends now how I feel about this. I'd only be repeating myself so I digress.

Sink or swim: How I find many offices to be in the industry.

Pick your brain issues! How many times have we heard this hot topic?

Another issue recently brought up in life as well as the show, is the distinguishing between personal life and work life. Part of the thing about loving your job is you don't care if you are always working. In your mind, you know it's work but you don't mind because you enjoy it or get off on it. Sure you like to complain about always working, but that doesn't mean you actually mean it. It definitely becomes a problem when your personal life falls apart due to it though. This is when you really have to evaluate your life and think about what you want. Sometimes, gorgeous wonderful boyfriends who don't do much professionally need more attention then you can give them and you just have to let go. I feel for Skinner. I respect her decision. Some people may not. It's a personal thing. Only you can determine when to draw the line. It can be done. It's just a matter of how much you want it to be.

With that said, some people are skeptics about Kelly getting all up in the personal lives of her staff but really, you spend most of your time with these people. It would be more awkward if they didn't have these personal talks in my opinion. When I was with my working crew, they were my best friends. Misery also loves company and since we were all "miserable" together, we only wanted to be with each other. Even doing non-working hours. Again, this plays into the whole, it's up to you thing I stated in the above paragraph. These small boutique places really are little families. I can assure you, when I had been in an office of 5 people for over a year and the boss who was absent walked by me outside the office standing with his maid an holding his dog no less, and he asked the maid who I was...not exactly a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

OMG I KNEW this girl they were interviewing looked familiar! She's the one from Whisper PR who stole all that jewelry! This was all going on while I was interviewing there.

I hate to pick on a 7 year old, but Ava seems kinda bratty. It's one thing to raise your child cool and smart and educated but it's another when they cross the line into pretentious. Then again, there's a TV camera in front of a girl who probably LOVES attention. Just sayin'.

Is Sanctuary T a client for Peoples Rev or just the closest spot for them to go to? If they aren't a client, they are getting great exposure on the show. I dig that place.

"To stay sane, you gotta go a little crazy!" I.E. Skinner in the spiked headband.

This Rick Ross thing just threw me for a loop. Kelly calls Rick Ross and starts free styling and I'm mystified that she just did that and then I see that its some random white dude. Kinda relieved!

Quotes by Kelly:
"We don't like reality, that's why we work in fashion!"
"We need to reevaluate our values and right now people do not want to buy a $2000 pair of pants. But unless people all go nude, they are going to need clothes."

I like that Kelly runs her company in an evolving state. She understands that nothing is static. Change is good.

Tatted

I know I have multiple personalities. Some days I feel feminine and delicate. Others I am dark and angry. Others I am a hippy and others I am a tomboy. Today I am just feeling tattoos.
I don't think I would ever go as big as the following but there is something I like about side tattoos lately. But I am very particular about it. Very fine line between too much/trashy, and sexy. I think the most I would go is maybe something small on my upper side rib, but thats pushing it. I'd really like to get my white hamsa on my wrist soon though, and thinking about an Ohm.

I found out that this tattoo convention, Hell City, is coming to Columbus in May and I want to go! Even if I never get a tattoo, I am still interested in it as an art form and think a convention like this would be one of the most interesting things to ever go to.

Coincidentally, as I was looking at tattoos on google and there were two randomly that struck me more then others. It turns out they were done by the same guy, Phil Young, who I think will be at the convention.

Here are just a couple more, from my friends and others I found and like.

UPDATE: Just yesterday @littlelittley posted a tweet about getting tattoo's over the age of 25. I responded saying I am 25 and want my first. My reasoning was that I had a long time to think about it and if I am still so obsessed with getting the same thing after this long, I should just do it. When you are 18, it's rare that something means so much to you that you want it inked eternally on you. Much better plan then just some tramp stamp cuz you are mad at your dad!

There seemed to be a lot of support on the decision to get them later in life. I know a lot of people who do mother daughter tattoos, in the mothers case, her first. I can't wait til the hardcore tattoo bodies get old. I am dying to see a great grandmother all inked up!

But this also brings me to another possible entire blog entry, which is tattoos in society now and specifically in the work force. I just ate at a restaurant that was if not acceptable, practically encouraging for you to show off you tattoos as an employee. But I am not referring to those. I mean regular office jobs. Is it becoming a more lenient thing or will certain places, like law firms, always be strict about this? What's a dumb 16 year old girl with a butterfly on her ankle to do 15 years down the road with a law degree?

Yelping Again

Check out my latest Yelp reviews on Tina's Night Club and Happy Dog from a fun birthday weekend for food n such and friends!

Happy Dog got me thinking, if I had to open a restaurant with a one food gimmick, I think I would do shrimp. That would go along with my idea to open a restaurant on a boat on Lake Erie. Something like Frying Pan in NYC. What kind of food would you focus on if you had to pick one? I've heard of hot dogs, chicken, burgers, falafals, pizza, smoothies, baked potatoes, mac n cheese...

Why not?

I've known about Otera's Evil Eye Scarves for a while but now there are new Hamsa ones that I also adore!

When TV Comes To Life

Reno 911! came to life yesterday at work. I could not believe how accurate it was! For those of you who aren't familiar with the character T.T., she is this out-of-control local that rarely has a bra on let alone a shirt on. She screams and yells and most of the time, you don't know what she is saying due to her buck teeth. She's either drunk or high and always flailing.

The only visual I could find was this quick clip in a video at :36 seconds in.

I had the joy of witnessing what is no doubt T.T.'s inspiration. Meet this beauty:

Not to worry! She isn't dead, she's only faking it.

How did this begin you ask? Fortunately I was there to witness the entire thing. There is a man that comes in to clean the establishment. On this particular day, he chose to bring his wife for some help. Owner was not around but it seemed harmless enough.

Then she turned on the radio. Blasted it so the walls were shaking. Then she started fighting with her husband about Pinesol, taking his job from him, and other things I could not understand. Owner shows up and is not thrilled. There was some yelling, not sure what was said. But I understood owners words "Get her out of here."

Then I hear her scream and there is a slapping noise, I look down and my little owner boss is dragging this lady out of the establishment. The physics of it alone were mind boggling! After that, she just laid there. At first I thought she was unconscious, but saw her crack a little smile so knew she was faking. (I am also witnessing this from three stories above.)

Cops took 29 minutes to show up. Not good form Cleveland's Finest! While we waited, Husband is begging Owner not to fire him and explaining that she has four personalities. Apparently one of them woke up at that moment because she sat up and started screaming bloody hell. Then, fell right back down in the mud. Husband tried to pick her up, and she went dead weight on him, which made me snort in laughter. In all honesty, the whole situation was sad but let's be honest, I've seen some crazy shit in my working day but this was a chart topper. I knew I wasn't in harms way so I just went with it.

So for the next 29 minutes, she would occasionally shout things, clap her hands while yelling a bunch of things like "Ima hit you like a man" and others that were indistinguishable. She was finally taken away in the back of the car. But first, she tried to drop and roll (in cuffs), which was not a good idea because she ripped her shirt. Oops.

Poor owner got a black eye and I hear she spent a couple hours in a cell. Husband was back the next day so I guess it all got worked out. But wow! What an interesting day!

Television History

I'll admit I did not watch Ugly Betty until last year. Then Mark Indelicato, who plays Justin Suarez, Betty's nephew on the show, became a client. I cannot say enough how much I loved working with this kid. His family was wonderful and he has such a great team behind him. I miss him more then anyone else I've worked with and luckily still keep in touch.

I watch UB now because I think the show and he are just brilliant. Two weeks ago, I turned it on just as Betty was by accident playing a music video Justin created for Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance". I nearly peed my pants in hysterics. One of the first assignments I was given was to get him into a Lady Gaga show and it was impossible. After this performance, I am sure he could waltz right in! I wish I could find a clip to the video, or ABC would post it but I digress and will just post the ep. link for you to see. http://abc.go.com/watch/ugly-betty/93531/253657/fire-and-nice

As a teenage boy struggling with identity, the show took things to the next level. He wasn't thinking, he was DOING. I don't think the world could have experienced this with a better actor. I am so proud of him and the show for this huge step. It is really a shame on the cancellation because the show could really take this somewhere.

Pic from Mark's blog at his "Sweet 16" I sadly could not make it to. The girl is his best friend who went to the same summer camp as I did. Such a small world. :)

RIP Pingping

The smallest man in the world died at age 21 on March 13th. RIP little guy.

Intuition

Not gunna lie, I have a gift. For some reason I can usually pick up on trends and people that will last and or make a larger impression on people.

For example, one time I worked with this photographer at an event. Afterwards, we walked home in a rainstorm, parted ways after a laugh, and I. Was. Infatuated. I will admit, I may have stalked him a bit after but it faded fast. I do still try to keep up with him though because I realized it wasn't so much a crush on a guy, but I just had a feeling he was special.

When I became facebook friends with him, he had this photo album called Thug Life and its just his family hanging out pretending to be thuggish. It was one of the funniest things I had seen, because I just imagined my family sitting around doing stupid things like this (not that we did, it would just be funny if we did.) I thought I posted this in my blog a while ago but I cant find it:

Anywho, after my little crush died down, a couple months later he was in the news. He was doing a photo project and getting himself and his models arrested all over town for them dropping trou in public places like the subway and the MET. I was so proud of my little artist friend.

Now, after just seeing him in a split second screen shot in that atrocious reality show, High Society, according to guestofaguest.com, he will be the newest cast member on MTV's The City. Yet another step into the spotlight. Man can I spot em!

For those interested, Zach's photography page is zhfoto.com

Opening: Peaches Hothouse

One of the very first entries I wrote was about my cousin's restaurant's in the BK. Looks like a new one is on it's way! Peaches Hothouse looks like it is set to open on Monday, according to this blog my mother somehow figured out how to send me on her gmail account that I didn't know she had.

For those of you that live in the area, go try it for me. I am not saying this because I am biased, but he has some dam good restaurants and I am sure this will be no different.

Kell On Earth 3/15

"Kids are like beans, they just grow overnight." - Kelly on Ava growing up so fast.

Via dei Mille kinda sorta made a cameo there when they meet that skater guy.

Andrew M is made for TV. But the tights and leggings have got to go.

Kelly has guessed two peoples signs on the show, and got them both wrong. I am amused.

The gay male assistant calls the intern Becca, and gossips among other things. Literally my life 2 years ago. Aw.

Thats all I've got tonight kids. Good night.

Vacation Wish List

The weather is getting warmer, spring is on the way. So is a trip to St. Martin. A couple things I'd like to take with me:

Carreras ($125) Kitson

Flute Dress from Topshop ($90)

DVF Sandels ($65) from Shopbop

House of Harlow Bangle ($95) Kitson

Tie-dye One Piece ($78) Victoria's Secret

And while i'm on the topic of Victria's Secret bathing suits, they have a very reasonable priced basic bikini with tons of options: all here Now this may be TMI but generally speaking, I like ordering from the catalog because if Marisa Miller's (upper) body can handle it, I should be OK.

A Guy Walks Into 365 Bars

(via GuestofaGuest) Another fabulously genius blogging idea. This guy goes to a bar every day for an entire year. He even set up a paypal account for people to help fund his little adventure.

The Rules:

1. I must spend at least one hour in a bar every day for 365 days in a row.

2. If, for whatever reason I miss a day, then I start all over.

3. I have to have at least three drinks in the bar.

4. I will put up a posting of the bar the day after, usually in the afternoon or early evening.

5. I won't repeat any bars except on the 365th day, when I may or may not return to my favorite bar of the adventure.

Talk about a dream job! No need to review or blab about this anymore, just check out the site.

Missing Cat Found

Are you missing your cat that has a distinct feature, like say, extra toes? [CurbedNY]

Johanna Johnson

I came across this designer today and couldn't help but think that I could totally see Nicole Richie in something like this for her wedding.

Urban Interns

As their website states, Urban Interns is "A Place to Find Part-Time Assistants". Based out of NYC, but catering nationwide, two women joined forces to focus on small businesses and connect them with part-time job seekers and interns and vice versa. There is a job database for the seeker and the seekee.

I just thought it was a good concept and wanted to help spread the word.

Kell On Earth Ep. Don't Remeber (3/8)

Just another live blog:

10am - the witching hour, its really brutally early.

Jeremy Scott is so weird/interesting. I just was waching a rerun from Kendra and that crazy kid Johnny Makeup, was running around in a jumpsuit with giant $$$$ symbols everywhere and screaming how it was Jeremy Scott. That sums up the clientele pretty well I think.

"It's constantly negative negative negative and its like, why am i gunna do anything for you?" - Stef Skinner on how she feels about her boss and speaking for 99% of workers who feel underappreciated.

I love the way Kelly describes her relationship with baby daddy. She says it is a very modern relationship.

The Book - I enjoy watching this process with Meridith Bryan. I read If You Have To Cry Go Outside and I have so much to say my entry on it is overwhelming me but I cant say enough how much I love love love it for the moment and think every woman should read it. More to come...

Lube for men in a PR place, sadly is a familiar thing for me.

Emily is seasoned at this job. She gets it, but skinner is still learning and therefore will be emotional. I'm sure Emily was at this point once too. I find that all seasoned publicists seem to get so tough, and so calised, they forget to look back/don't give a shit about the youngins. It's just the nature of the pr evolution beast. I like seeing the fact that Kelly is admitting she is being hard on Skinner for Skinner's benefit. Most employees that are assistants, trainees, interns, etc don't see the boss's side of it. In the rare case that The Kelly Cutrone see's something in you, perhaps she's being hard on you to make you better? Bt how far is too far? I think a lot of boss's are trying to be beneficial and sometimes just take it too far.

To be really efficient in a pr place like this, you need to find your groove. Emily works the way I do, where you finish and move on. I can't understand how some poeople work on something a little and something else a little. It will swallow you whole in my opinion! But once you find your groove, you are unstoppable!.

"That's the problem with this city, everybody looks gay but isnt!" - Andrew

How did I never run into anyone from Peoples Revolution at Gourmet Garage? Well maybe I did and I jut didnt realize at the time. Hmm...

Totally would have been funny (and prob not too surprising) if I knew the guy on the blind date.

Didnt Kelly crash a date with Whitney Port too? I admire Kelly so much more and more. She really just has so much fun with her crew. Her staff really are treated like family.

Chasing Harry Winston

I also read a book over the weekend. In 3 days I finished Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger. This was probably the fastest time I ever read something.

The basics: 3 best friends in NYC approaching age 30 and the antics in their lives currently. They are all at different points. One's engaged to Mr. Perfect and can't seem to make herself happy, one's some hottie who loves bed hopping, and the other just got dumped and is trying to enjoy life a little more now.

Although there was nothing particularly thrilling or amazing about the actual story, I enjoyed the book for a couple reasons. 1. Chick-lit is always a nice little break for the brain. But there is a line between annoying and bearable and many of these books are annoying. The story about the dumped girl got to me a bit but Weisberger made it cut up between the three enough that I persevered through her story because I knew it wouldn't last long. 2. There is definitely material I can relate to here. Not so sure that's a good thing but I guess it keeps me human. Examples: the stalking of the ex, as much as I hate to admit it. The convesations between the friends, the intimacy they share and the execution in the writing of it. Also the one who is dealing with the pressure of what society tells us to do versus what is better for us. The engaged girl thinks she should roll with it cuz at a certain age, you meet someone and get along with them and things get rushed because there is pressure. Who exactly says that is the one and only way to live?

Of coarse it's predictable but the fact that it wasn't about a party-hopping, name dropping publicist was refreshing. Sure the usual suspects of the hotspot NYC restaurants like Waverly Inn get dropped but with Harry Winston in the title and a pic of a Louboutin on the cover, it's to be expected. If you're looking for a quick beach read and are one of the few who haven't read it yet, grab it.

Jacksonville, Florida March 4-7, 2010

David was working down in Jax again so I flew down to get some sun. Unfortunately it was fairly cold, but still nicer then snow. We went to Sticky Fingers in Atlantic Beach and I still stand by the statement that they have the best wings in the entire world. We also rented bikes and "cruised on the beach" as the locals say. Apparently I also had the "Cadillac of bikes". We went a little further into the Atlantic Beach area and I have to say, my impression of the area changed drastically. It was much nicer on that side of the road then Jacksonville Beach. It was a pretty nice bike ride, something a little different to do. (And yes my butt is killing me!) Overall it was a nice little getaway despite the weather.

"Oh I don't have to go to jail tonight? Aight well ima go perform at Jay-Z's concert at MSG."

Lil Wayne avoided jail for the second time this week due to a fire in the court where his sentencing was supposed to take place.

PR is NOT negotiable

(Note: This is written in the sense that I am speaking to a person not in the industry. Perhaps a potential client or someone seeking or getting pr/social media/marketing.)

There is a fire inside me right now. I have been screwed before out of getting paid because a check bounced, or someone forgot and sent it much later then it was supposed to be sent. But never have I dealt with this following situation. I guess it comes with the territory but it shouldn't have to.

When I was working for other companies, I noticed it seemed like we were always dealing with clients that weren't paying. Granted it was for much larger amounts then I am personally dealing with but I soon found out, this is a common practice in the industry and its almost to be expected. I had a very hard time believing this. How can people just not pay? Are there that many unprofessional people out there? Well sadly, the answer seems to be yes.

As a freelancer, you take chances. One of them is financial. If a client doesn't pay, that affects you more then ever. So what is one to do when this happens? Some suggest getting paid before, or getting a down payment. Others, who are established enough, take the chance and just hope for the best. Should that not happen, you then decide to take the loss, or take things to a higher level, small claims court most likely.

How do these people sleep at night? Everyone has their bills to pay and for someone to just blatantly steal from someone else is horrible. Stealing is exactly what it is when you hire someone to do something and they do it and you refuse to pay. Now, the crux of the situation is WHY do people think they can do this in our industry?

For some odd reason, people seem to view PR and Marketing as a negotiable job, regardless of what is signed in a contract. To me it seems that a very common argument given is "I didn't get what I wanted." Well if you want to pay someone for actual results, there is a system for this and it is called per diem. You want to to only pay for results, then that is a different arrangement all together. You can't just decide that is what you want and refuse to pay after the fact.

What people don't get is there is a lot of work that goes into our jobs, whether you can see it or not. If it really takes logging every single call and friend request and idea given in order for client to see what they are paying for, then so be it, but you as a client need to state that in advance. If you don't trust someone enough, don't hire out of house.

But if you sign a contract for a particular time of service, and nothing states anything about results, you can't decide not to pay them in the end. Maybe as a client you want WWD and only WWD but never say anything and I get you everything but WWD. At the end of the term, you cant say you didn't get what you want and you aren't paying. Work was still done if you like it or not. Even if work isn't done to a satisfactory, when you sign that contract you a promising to pay. You don't pay for advertising and if sales don't go up, you don't get your money back. That's just not how it works and for some reason people don't get that.

As a publicist or social media manager, especially one working on my own at the moment, I will only take clients I like and feel I can do something for. I don't just sit around and then expect you to pay me, I am not a criminal. I don't steal. In the initial meetings, you as a potential worker talk desired results but you almost never guarantee anything for the most part. If goals are something you have in mind, again, that's a different arrangement all together. You have to be fair and realistic to your marketing or pr people. Of coarse they are going to get excited at the meeting and hope to get you a bunch of things and improve your company. That is the whole purpose of our job! But if that doesn't happen, it doesn't mean they didn't try and it certainly doesn't mean that you can or can not pay them at your discretion.

To be honest, this isn't about the money (although that plays a HUGE role). The fact is I am just saddened and sickened that people conduct themselves like this. It is so unprofessional and just mean.

I am trying to avoid details because clearly something is going on in my life and I will be going court. But after this is over, you better believe I will use my pr expertise and connections to make it known what is going on. Anyone know a good lawyer?

Interior Wish List 2010

I need to femme up this apartment. My dream style inspiration of the moment...a combination of Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie and Free People. That pretty and flowy and girly yet kinda sexy look. That plus a little glam and Hollywood. Dark purples, laces, creams, cute gizmos. I made up a little wish list below from the most recent things on Urban and Anthro that I think would also be bearable by my roommate.

(BTW Urban on a side note has teamed up with a company that you can DESIGN YOUR OWN BIKE! Anthropologie also has a ton of adorable aprons providing a unique present option for your little kitchen lovin friends.)

I also found these pillowcase sets exclusive to Urban:
